Cody Simpson teases fans with an unreleased single from his teenage years following his stellar performance at the Olympic swimming trials

Cody Simpson is on his way to Olympic glory, after beating his personal best at the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials. 

But the 24-year-old couldn’t help but revisit the glory of his past singing career on Tuesday while listening to an unreleased track. 

Cody was seen singing along in the car to a track in an Instagram clip shared by his mother, Angie, after the swim meet.

Cody was heard singing the lyrics: ‘Walking around with my head down,’ while also talking about a girl and his phone. 

‘Unreleased throwback. Fourteen-year-old me,’ Cody said in the clip. 

The song was called Tears of a Clown, with it appearing to be a firm favourite for the young star.

It comes as Cody is one step closer to his Olympic dreams after being declared winner of the men’s 100-metre freestyle race at the trials on Tuesday.

Cody completed the heat in 50.22 seconds, taking 1.5 seconds off his previous best time and ranking him 23rd overall after the preliminary heats.

Cody was clearly elated by his win, but his preferred race is yet to come – the 100-metre butterfly.

Cody gave up his singing career last year to focus on his childhood passion – swimming. 

He has been training under the watchful eye of Olympic swim coach Brett Hawke.

Cody has previously spoken about his intention to swim at the Paris Olympics in 2024.

In April, Cody suffered a minor setback after he placed ninth in his heat at the Australian National Championships, with a time of 24.79 seconds.

Speaking to News Corp at the time, he said he was ‘dusting himself off’ following the defeat. 

The talented hunk claimed his two weeks in quarantine could have contributed to a loss in his optimal pool performance.
