The national average price for a cod and chips is about £6.50. The star of BBC2’s Saving Britain’s Pubs is launching Kerridge’s Fish & Chips at Harrods.

His wallet-busting version of the dish includes ‘market day fish’, chips, curry sauce, tartare sauce and pease pudding.

The restaurant, which opens this Friday, will also serve 10g of chips topped with caviar and creme fraîche for £32.

Kerridge, 47, said: ‘I really believe that British talent and produce are at the forefront of great cuisine.’

Other items on sale include Morecambe Bay shrimp with spiced paprika butter and treacle bread, cockle popcorn and malted beer vinegar, and fish samosas.

It comes after rival TV chef Gordon Ramsay set up a gastro burger joint at Harrods.

Kerridge added: “I am proud to bring my take on the best fish and seafood dishes to the most iconic department store in the world.’

The chef, who attended catering college in Cheltenham, has three eateries in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, including the double Michelin-starred Hand and Flowers, and another two in London and Manchester.

While growing up in tough areas of Gloucester, his single mother held down several jobs while moving Kerridge and his brothers around various housing estates in the city.
