She married her husband Richard Lavender in an intimate ceremony in the Southern Highlands on New Year’s Eve.
But it appears it wasn’t quite a fairytale meeting for Sam Armytage, 44, and Richard, 61 – as on Saturday the former Sunrise host revealed she was actually dating someone else when they first laid eyes on each other.
Speaking on her podcast Something To Talk About, the TV star recalled how she found her ‘prince’ in April 2019 to radio titan Kyle Sandilands.

‘What did you think when you first saw him? Did you think I’m going to get me a little bit of that?’ Kyle cheekily asked her.
‘No, I didn’t. When we first met I was actually dating someone else, so I didn’t think that at all…’ Sam responded.
‘I bet you did and you just don’t want to say it so you don’t look like a naughty girl!’ Kyle quipped back, to which Sam laughed hysterically and added: ‘This is not about me, let’s talk about you!’

‘I still haven’t got around to changing it, I’ve been so lazy!’ she laughed.
It’s believed the man Sam was seeing at the time was on-off boyfriend and private jet tycoon Paul O’Brien, who she began dating in November 2017.

The couple had taken a break in January 2019, before briefly reconciling. They split for good in late April that year – the very same month she met the love of her life, Richard.
Speaking on Sunrise during her last ever show in March, Richard admitted he got a ‘nice feeling’ when he saw Sam for the first time at a pal’s birthday bash.
‘We met at the end of a friend’s birthday party,’ he said. ‘I remember seeing her and I got this really nice feeling. I thought, that’s my girl.’
