Radio titan Kyle Sandilands questions why he prefers to rent houses

‘Maybe it’s a feeling from when I was younger’: Radio titan Kyle Sandilands reveals why he prefers to rent houses

He is reportedly paid a staggering $5million per year to co-host Sydney’s top-rated FM breakfast show, The Kyle and Jackie O Show, alongside Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

And while he could easily afford to buy his own home, Kyle Sandilands revealed on Samantha Armytage’s podcast this week why he generally prefers to rent.

When asked by Samantha whether it’s true he always rents the house he lives in, the 49-year-old radio titan said he doesn’t like ‘to be locked down in the one place’, and questioned whether it has anything to do with ‘leftover feelings’ from his youth.

‘I owned a few houses. I don’t mind renting because, I don’t know, maybe it’s a leftover feeling from when I was younger,’ he said on Something To Talk About.

‘I don’t like to be locked down in the one place. I’m almost like a gypsy,’ he continued, referencing his early days in radio where he would be required to spend a few years in one city before ‘bouncing around all over the place’.

Kyle described himself as more of a ‘get up and go’ type person, and has never dreamed of buying his own ‘low-set brick house with a twin garage’.

‘That’s not my dream, I’ve got bigger dreams. I like to rent places so I can just pull out of there and go,’ he explained.

While he may live the high life now, Kyle has come from very humble beginnings.

The KIIS FM host spent more than nine months living on the streets of Brisbane when he was just 15.

He told The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential last year: ‘It’s when I go back to Brisbane and I drive down a street that I used to walk around when I was homeless, that’s when it really comes back as a real feeling but other than that it’s a distant memory.’

Arguably the country’s biggest radio star, Kyle’s career has soared to great heights.

Since moving from 2DayFM to KIIS FM in 2014 to co-host The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Kyle and Jackie have maintained their successful ratings, earning the #1FM breakfast spot on Tuesday.

Outside of radio, Kyle has a multi-million dollar portfolio of properties and businesses, including his alcoholic beverage, Nueva Sangria.
