Teenage girl placed in induced coma after suffering serious head injury in ugly tackle during rugby league game

  • A 14-year-old girl was flown to hospital after tackle in NSW rugby league game 
  • The girl made her way to the sideline but then collapsed in a seizure  
  • Paramedics arrived and called in Careflight who airlifted her to hospital  

A teenage girl has been placed in a coma by doctors after suffering a serious head injury in a tackle during a NSW under-15s rugby league game. 

The 14-year-old girl is understood to have made her way to the sideline after the tackle in Saturday’s game but then collapsed and suffered a seizure. 

Paramedics arrived at the footy field in Erina on the Central Coast about 2pm and treated the girl on the field but quickly decided to call in the Careflight helicopter. 

Paramedics treated the girl at the scene (pictured) and she was placed in an induced coma to stablise her 

The chopper arrived 20 minutes later with a specialist doctor on board. 

Physicians intubated the girl and placed her in an induced coma to stablise her.

She was flown to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious but stable condition. 

She was then flown to hospital by the Careflight chopper (pictured)
