Hugh Jackman relives his past and chases woman in his memories in eerie trailer for Reminiscence

He played a character trying to recover his lost memories in his most iconic role as the Wolverine in the X-Men franchise of films.

And if the formula for Hugh Jackman ain’t broke then why fix it?

The 52-year-old actor was featured in the eerie trailer for Reminiscence released on Thursday as the movie is the feature film writing and directing debut for Westworld creator Lisa Joy.

In the film Jackman stars as a scientist named Nick Bannister who discovers a way to relive his past and use that technology to search for his long lost love. 

He then ends up falling for an alluring client named Mae, played by his The Greatest Showman co-star Rebecca Ferguson, who suddenly vanishes.

The trailer begins with a voiceover from Bannister who says: ‘We are going on a journey, a journey through memory, all you have to do is follow my voice.’

Mae is shown walking into his office as he is about to close it up but is so allured by her that he takes the appointment.

Bannister is then shown using his own technology to relive his past when he sees memories of Mae and is suddenly woken up.

She later is realistic with him as she tells Bannister: ‘She’s moved on and you should too.’

There are also several scenes of Mae being sultry and even a few of her getting very intimate with Bannister leading many to wonder if they actually had  such a romantic relationship.

The over two minute clip ends nearly just as it began as Bannister says in a voiceover: ‘You are going on a journey, all you have to do is follow my voice.’ 

The film also stars Angela Sarafyan, Natalie Martinez, Brett Cullen, Teri Wyble, Mojean Aria, Sam Medina, Sue-Lynn Ansari, Rey Hernandez, Daniel Wu, and Cliff Curtis.

The film’s synopsis reads: ‘Nick Bannister (Hugh Jackman), a private investigator of the mind, navigates the darkly alluring world of the past by helping his clients access lost memories. Living on the fringes of the sunken Miami coast, his life is forever changed when he takes on a new client, Mae (Rebecca Ferguson).

Lisa Joy wrote and directed the film after co-creating Westworld with husband Jonathan Nolan which has had three successful seasons on HBO.

Reminiscence will be released by Warner Bros. in theaters and on HBO Max for 31 days on Friday, August 20.
