A local postie has performed a heartwarming act of kindness for a woman trapped in isolation after she missed her package drop-off time.

Queenslander Kirsten Sinnamon, 47, was forced to spend a fortnight isolating at home after visiting her grandchild in Melbourne just before the state’s latest outbreak began.

Mrs Sinnamon and her husband returned home to Townsville from the Victorian capital to find an Australia Post slip informing them they’d missed the delivery – a keto slow-cook recipe book.

Unable to go to the Post Office, she wrote a letter politely asking the post officer if they would collect the parcel for them – and were stunned when she received a phone call that afternoon from their local postwoman.

Mrs Sinnamon and her husband were forced to mimic the lockdown of Victoria after visiting a hotspot, which applies to all Queenslanders who had been in the state since May 13.

‘We’ve had notices about picking up a parcel from the post office telling us if we don’t come soon they’ll return it to sender, but we’re not allowed out,’ she posted to Facebook.

Fearing the prolonged isolation could see the package eventually sent back for not being collected, she decided to make the urgent appeal.

‘Dear postie. We’re stuck in iso after visiting 1st grandbaby in Melbourne last week,’ the note reads.

‘Is it possible to redeliver our parcel please? We’ll be here all week. Understand if that’s not possible. Thanks, Kirsten.’

A matter of hours later she received a call from an unknown number, which turned out to be Lisa, their local postie.

‘Our Postie (Lisa – who we’ve never met) phoned me from the mail centre (because she had to go back there to get the parcel to find my phone no) just to check if we needed it redirected to a different address,’ Mrs Sinnamon said.

‘When I explained the home isolation situation she came back and delivered it this afternoon.

‘We would have been completely happy if they’d just been able to hold it for the week until we’re allowed out to collect, or even delivered the next day.

‘We’re over the moon with appreciation to receive it today!’

Mrs Sinnamon and her husband can now spend the rest of their isolation slow-cooking keto recipes from their new book.
