Meghan Markle’s wedding make-up artist has shared his tips on how to achieve a effortlessly beautiful look,

The duchess opted for a natural base, a focus on eye make-up and a dash of colour on the cheek with a neutral pink lip whens she tied the knot with Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel in 2018.

The man behind the look was New York-based make-up artist, and longtime friend of Meghan’s, Daniel Martin – who shared with the Telegraph his tips on accentuating your appearance, as the couple celebrate their third anniversary today.

Describing the look as ‘me, but better’, Daniel said there’s been a shift from wearing heavy, glamorous make-up on your wedding day to a toned-down look which doesn’t change your appearance too much, but emphasises attributes that already exist.

‘For many brides, their wedding is their big red carpet moment and I think they’re realising that they don’t necessarily have to change the way they look to feel beautiful that day’, said Daniel.

His first piece of advice was skincare. Rather than using a heavy, high-coverage base, Daniel says that the right skincare can help your make-up stay on throughout the entire day.

He suggested using a primer after applying moisturiser to secure foundation and balance the skin tone, while giving the skin a glow that doesn’t appear shiny.

Rather than opting for a heavy eye and heavy lip, Daniel says to choose a feature that you love about yourself and accentuate that, while keeping the rest of your look light.

He says that this balances out the look and means that you’re feeling confident in your own skin, advising a neutral lip shade if – like Meghan – you prefer darker eye make-up.

While a dark eye can feel intimidating, Daniel suggested using Bobbi Brown eyeshadow sticks, meaning the look can be gradually built up to draw attention to the eye – while also acting as a base for powder shadow.

Finally, Daniel said that make-up shouldn’t be something to hide behind, and that whatever the look, wearing make-up with confidence will make the bride appear all the more special.

While Daniel created a stunning look for the duchess, her wedding day was the first time Meghan had ever tried out the make-up, with the pair arranging her look over text because they were too busy to do a trial run.

Daniel was unable to travel to London before the wedding, meaning the duo had no opportunity to practice the look – despite some 17 million people tuning in to watch the big day.

‘I was in New York and she was in London and there was no time because of my crazy schedule to be able to go there,’ Daniel told Harper’s Bazaar the year after Meghan’s wedding.

‘I knew exactly what she wanted and the day of the wedding was just us getting together and doing her make-up like usual.’

Martin, who works as an ambassador for Dior and has known Meghan for more than a decade, added that he opted for a natural look for the Duchess because of different lighting situations throughout the day.

He noted that the makeup would look ‘completely different’ as the bride rode in the car to the chapel with mother Doria, stood at the altar, and took a carriage ride in the bright sunshine with her new husband.

The beauty guru added: ‘If I started heavier and she got into the church, her make-up would’ve looked a lot darker than when you see her in natural light. It was also noon, when the light is at it’s highest.’
