Holly Willoughby admits she enjoys online parents’ evenings as she can enjoy a gin and tonic on the side… but admits it can also be like ‘terrible speed dating’
Holly Willoughby is hoping online parents’ evenings will continue beyond the pandemic because she enjoys being able to have a gin and tonic while she’s chatting to her children’s teachers.
Holly, 40, who shares children Harry, 11, Belle, nine, and six-year-old Chester with her husband Dan Baldwin, made the admission on Wednesday’s This Morning.
‘I like certain things about it. I like the fact that just off screen I can have my gin and tonic…’

She also admitted she enjoys a cup of tea sometimes instead, and added that the stress of getting to parents’ evenings on time is taken out of it when held online.
‘I’m not panicking, I’m not trying to find a car parking space, I like all of that, I like that,’ she added.
There are downsides to this format however, Holly admitted.
‘What I don’t like is there’s a timer and you’re literally like, “Hi can you hear me? Isn’t this weird?”

‘And then suddenly you’ve got 30 seconds and then the screen goes and the next teacher pops up! It’s like terrible speed dating!’
She elaborated on how she much prefers face-to-face interaction on the whole, saying to her This Morning guest.
She said: ‘There is a difference between talking to somebody on a screen and like, when you walked in here today, it’s just so nice to see your eyes.
We’ve all had a bev! She also admitted she enjoys a cup of tea sometimes instead, and added that the stress of getting to parents’ evenings on time is taken out of it when held online
‘Because when you’re talking to someone, there is a connection and you do need that with your teachers because they spend so much time with your children.
‘I think it worked really well during the pandemic and I think everyone was really resourceful and made it work and it was fantastic, but it’s not the same as face-to-face I don’t think.’
