Meloni starred as Detective Elliot Stabler on the first 12 seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, as the partner to Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson.

His character was written off the show as putting in his retirement papers to the NYPD, though he ultimately returned to the police force with this new spin-off.

Stabler and Benson had their long-awaited reunion during the April 1 episode of SVU, which was followed directly by the debut of Law & Order: Organized Crime.
