EXCLUSIVE: Delta Goodrem shares the secrets behind her songwriting and why she decided to open up about a secret health battle in her new album

She’s the Australian singer who was thrust into the limelight when her debut single, Born To Try, topped the charts at the tender age of 18.

And now, after almost two decades in the spotlight, Delta Goodrem has revealed how she stays motivated as she gears up to release her sixth studio album.

‘With songwriting, there’s having a shared experience to be able to connect with people,’ the 36-year-old told Daily Mail Australia.

‘There’s a reason you share these vulnerabilities or these stories,’ Delta explained.

‘I think that kind of transparency that’s going on with people sharing is something that connects us even closer.’

‘There’s strength and and vulnerability, but I think the reason you share it because you don’t know what somebody else is going through and someone else might relate.’

Delta also spoke about her decision to release a song about her secret health battle where she lost the ability to speak.

‘When we were in lockdown it was a really important message to say that you just don’t know what somebody is going through,’ she said.

‘Through music I am able to say how I feel and talk about that about that moment of stillness, but it really was the core of what made that whole record. It was the reset.’

Delta continued: ‘It was the going back to just being barefoot at the piano, playing my song, writing from the heart and being honest in the music.’

Back in April 2020, the singer announced she would be treating fans to a series of weekly concerts.

Speaking of her struggles to adapt to a new digital era – which included regularly dropping out of wifi and figuring out how to flip her iPhone camera during the stream – she said: ‘That was so funny. I mean, it really was.’
