Pane-fully embarrassing! Moment distracted DHL delivery driver walks through shop window as he stares down at his screen

  • DHL driver walks into a shop window at The Game Pad in Kings Lynn, Norfolk
  • Surveillance footage shows the moment the driver mistakes window for a door
  • He suffered a leg injury, with the damage to the shop costing the owner £1,200

This is the moment a distracted delivery driver shatters a shop window after walking straight through it whilst delivering a package.

Surveillance footage captures the DHL delivery driver entering through the door of The Game Pad in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, to drop off a parcel.

After successfully delivering the package at the till the driver walks towards the exit, intently staring at his handheld device as he mistakes the shop-front window for a door.

Hitting the glass head-first the driver instantly shatters the shop’s window onto the high street.

The confused driver can be seen grabbing the falling shards of glass with his hands as he realizes what he has done.

Nearby cafe-goers can be seen standing up to help the man who clutches his head for a moment before turning and walking back into the shop.

The damage caused by the incident, which occured on May 5, will cost £1,200 to repair.

The footage was originally posted to Youtube by the shop owner Jason Lee, 43, who said he hoped they could ‘claim off DHL’ for the repair cost of the now boarded-up window.

Mr Lee told Eastern Daily Press: ‘We gave him medical attention, closed the shop, called the medics and he was there for about 45 minutes as they checked him over. He got a cut to his leg and they bandaged it up.

‘He originally told me that he tripped and had gone through the glass so I took it at face value but I looked through the CCTV and I could clearly see it wasn’t the case at all.’

The owner added that he had ‘sympathy’ for the driver who was ‘lucky’ he only suffered a leg injury.

Mr Lee, who rents the shop space, told the Eastern Daily Press that the replacement glass will be ‘up to building standards and laminated’ as he had received criticism over how easily the glass had broken.

He later posted to the shop’s Facebook page: ‘I obviously regret what happened, but I could have not foreseen that someone would walk through the shop window 4 days after I official took over.

‘I’ve never heard of any similar incidents in our area over the last 20 years.

‘I’m so glad there were no serious injuries and steps are being taken to try and prevent such a very very rare incident happening again.

‘This includes the replacement window meeting current regulations, e.g laminated safety glass and a new display to go in front of the window.’
