MAFS’ Bryce Ruthven shares a backhanded compliment to his mum on Mother’s Day

Married At First Sight’s Bryce Ruthven has posted a backhanded compliment to his mum on Mother’s Day.

The Canberra radio presenter, 31, shared a photo alongside his mum to Instagram and said he still loves her after she chastised him over his treatment of wife Melissa Rawson on MAFS.

‘Roasted me on national TV but still love her. Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mums out there,’ he wrote.

During the last season of MAFS, Bryce got dressed down by his own mother during a Zoom meeting with his parents as he sat beside his bride, Melissa.

Bryce’s mother told him he should have ‘lied’ during the bride ranking challenge. 

He ranked wife Melissa as ‘fourth’ hottest on the show following a challenge. 

‘You to rank Melissa at four. And to be so stupid as to say, ‘Oh, well, I thought I’d be honest.’ That’s just dumb, his mother told him.   

‘If you need to rank her, then lie. But the other thing is, I truly believe all three experts have actually picked your personality.’  

‘You become outspoken, and they’re giving you advice and I’m thinking, ”You’re not even listening.” You need to listen.’ 

She went on to say he became defensive in the experiment.  

‘You know, like, the rooster, the chest is out. ”I’m ready to go on the defensive,” Bryce … enough’s enough. You need to stop.’ 

She then encouraged him to think of Melissa’s feelings. 

‘You’ve also gotta take on board how do you think Melissa’s gonna feel wanting to support you, and all you’re doing is really embarrassing her.’   

She finished: ‘In all honesty, I don’t know why she’s sitting next to you at this point.’

Despite the ups and downs their relationship experienced throughout the experiment, Bryce and Melissa decided to stay together during the final commitment ceremony.
