Zac Efron’s friend sets the record straight on plastic surgery rumours

Zac Efron sparked plastic surgery rumours last week when he looked noticeably different while taking part in Earth Day! The Musical on Facebook Watch.

And Kyle Sandilands, one of the actor’s closest friends, has weighed in on the debate about the actor’s appearance, saying there’s no way the Baywatch star, 33, has secretly gone under the knife.

The Australian radio host, 49, who has known Zac for years, shut down speculation during The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Friday.

‘I would know if he’d had any plastic surgery,’ Kyle declared, before telling his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson that ‘of course’ Zac hadn’t had work done.

He then said it would be pointless for the High School Musical heart-throb to have surgery because he’s already so good looking.

‘It’s like getting a Picasso and having a kid finger paint all over it. Why bother?’ he said bluntly.

Kyle weighed into the debate several days after leading plastic surgeon Dr Anthony Youn offered his own hot take on Zac’s new look.

In a TikTok video uploaded on Sunday, Dr Youn claimed Zac may have undergone dental surgery, but not plastic surgery as some fans have speculated.

‘Everyone is talking about Zac Efron and how strange he looks. Has he had surgery to reshape his jawline, Botox or fillers?’ Dr Youn began.

‘I don’t think so. I actually think he has had dental surgery, not plastic surgery.

‘That’s why he is swollen [along his jaw]. If you’ve had your wisdom teeth taken out, did you look like this?’

Zac found himself trending on Twitter last week after he sparked surgery rumours by revealing a seemingly new appearance.

The former Disney child star prompted alarm when he looked noticeably different while taking part in Earth Day! The Musical via Facebook.

Zac’s part in the clip came at the 1:50 mark where he began to call organiser Bill Nye a ‘genius’ for the event, but fans where perhaps too distracted by his changing looks to listen to what he had to say.

There is no suggestion that Zac has gone under the knife, but the known fitness fanatic, who has been through a few body transformations in his career, certainly got fans talking.

While some of the memes and comments were mean-spirited, other fans genuinely appeared to be surprised by seeing Zac with what appeared to be a more squared out jawline, and puffiness around his face.

‘I refuse to believe this is Zac Efron,’ one fan wrote, while another said, ‘Zac Efron is one more plastic surgery appointment away from looking like the guy from TikTok with the square jaw.’

The actor has certainly been through a big body transformation throughout his career, having buffed up for a starring role in the Baywatch movie after his Disney days.

However, last year the actor revealed that he never wants to get back into his ripped physique from that 2017 movie.

‘That was actually a really important time to do Baywatch because I realised that when I was done with that movie, I don’t ever want to be in that good of shape again. Really. It was so hard,’ he said in an interview.

‘You’re working with almost no wiggle room, right? You’ve got things like water under your skin that you’re worrying about, making your six-pack into a four-pack. S*** like that it’s just not … it’s just stupid.’

While filming the comedy, he tweeted a glimpse of his routine: ‘9 days of absolutely zero carbs & sugar. Only organic grass fed/free range protein and organic leafy greens.’

His trainer Patrick Murphy told Men’s Health at the time: ‘I threw everything I had at him. Stability training, power, mobility, athletic training. He did more two-a-days than anyone I ever worked with.’

In 2019, Efron appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he was introduced to a Madame Tussauds wax figure of his character.

He admitted he was ‘very impressed and scared’ by the recreation, before he compared his own abs to the statue.

Efron said: ‘It’s a little bigger than me. That’s too big…for guys, that’s unrealistic, I’m telling you.

‘I got very big and buff for that movie but I don’t want people to think that’s the best way to be. Be your size. I don’t want to glamorize this.’

But Efron didn’t totally shoot down the possibility of another beefcake role, telling Hot Ones host Sean Evans: ‘I’m happy that it worked, I’m happy that it got me through it.

‘I may do it again if it was something worthwhile but we’ll wait till it gets to that. I’m good. Take care of your heart, take care of your brain and you’re good.’
