Big Brother returns with bold contestants and a shock elimination

Big Brother is back! The reality show returns with a sky-high challenge, bold contestants, tears… and a shock elimination on the first night

Big Brother Australia returned to screens for its thirteenth season on Monday.

And the Channel Seven show’s premiere episode didn’t disappoint with a revamped new house and a bevy of outspoken contestants.

Real estate mogul Daniel Hayes, 48, was assigned the first mission of the season, just minutes after entering the house.

Choosing ex-cricketer Nicholas Brenton, 29, as his partner in crime, the pair made it to the secret boiler room undetected.

The first nomination challenge set the bar sky high.

Personal trainer Katie Williams, 27, and her Ironman ex Max Beattie hit the ground running.

But it was mother-of-two Renata Bubeniene, who got to put three housemates up for possible eviction.

She chose flight attendant Christina Davis, sheep farmer Melissa McGorman and Max, 29.

‘I think Max and Christina are getting closer,’ explained Renata, 45, labelling their alliance ‘concerning’.

They all scrambled to get the housemates on side, but in a massive twist, Nick and Daniel were the only ones given the power to vote if they chose to.

Nick did not want to evict anyone so Daniel cast the only vote and Max was the first to leave the Big Brother house.

Big Brother continues on Tuesday at 7.30pm on Seven
