Shortly before the premiere of the show’s first season, Barton spoke to Glamour and noted that she had joined the show in an effort to take control of her own narrative.

Specifically, the Sixth Sense actress noted, ‘I think there has always been a lot of mystery around me. It’s fun to allow people to actually see me!’

The performer also spoke about the theme of sisterhood and how she was impressed by the other cast members who raised children while appearing on the series.

‘It’s girls supporting girls… I hadn’t had quite so many girlfriends before this show so it’s funny to have five women hanging out together. I also respect them so much for being working mothers – that is not an easy job,’ she said.

Letting it all out: During an interview that was published just before the show's premiere, the actress noted that she had joined its cast as she felt that it would be 'fun to allow people to actually see me'

Barton then discussed how she has spent much of her life under heavy media attention and the lessons that she gained from her experience.

She remarked, ‘I did start being very famous when I was only 17 years old in The OC. Your twenties are crazy anyway and if you magnify that, it was wild doing all of that in the public eye. There’s really nothing I haven’t started to learn about myself.

‘There really was a time when I couldn’t do anything or get away with anything or even leave the house without having to really think it through,’ she added.
