José Mourinho makes the most of his free time as he steps out with friends in London… with Portuguese coach in line to pocket £15million following sack from Tottenham Hotspur

There was the hint of a smile on Wednesday as jobless José Mourinho stepped out with friends in London, shortly after being relieved of his post by Tottenham Hotspur.

The Portuguese football coach, 58, was sacked by a third consecutive Premier League club on April 19th following a run of dismal results with the north London side, despite guiding them to Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

But he appeared to make the most of his newly acquired free time while out in Chelsea, amid claims he is in line for a £15million pay-off following the termination of his contract with Spurs.

Dressed casually in a grey hooded top and chinos, Mourinho looked relaxed as he laughed and joked with friends during his first social appearance since parting ways with the Premier League side.

It’s understood that Mourinho’s Spurs contract was worth £15million annually and had been drawn up without a break clause, with a year left to run on his three-year deal.

The timing of his exit means the coach will be in line for a hefty settlement from the club, in line with similar pay-offs received by former English clubs Chelsea and Manchester United.

Mourinho picked up a reported £18million following his first Chelsea sacking in 2007 as well as a further £17million after parting ways with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The coach trousered another £12.5million in 2015 after his second spell with Chelsea ended on bad terms, before raking in £15million in the wake of an arguably toxic tenure at Manchester United.

Italian side Juventus are the bookmakers’ favourites to be two-time Premier League winner Mourinho’s next club, with the Portugal national team and his old club Porto also among the other frontrunners.

He was relieved of his duties just six days before Tottenham meet Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, and has since insisted he did reveal he did not need a break from football.

‘You know me. I’m not going to say anything,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘No need for breaks or recharged batteries. I’m always in football.’

After a dismal opening campaign, in which Tottenham were decimated by injuries, Mourinho’s side offered little to no improvement this season – despite showing early promise as they sat top of the table after 12 games in December.

They now begin their search for a new manager, with coaches Ryan Mason and Chris Powell taking the reins for the rest of the season.
