Italian fashion designer Emilio Pucci has unveiled a bizarre £1,525 playsuit which looks like it could be made out of loofahs.

The piece, which is available to buy on Net-A-Porter, is part of a high end collaboration with Japanese designer Tomo Koizumi.

The halter-neck playsuit boasts a splash of bright yellow and baby pink and is largely made up of giant ruffled tulle material, making it rather sponge-like in appearance.

Although it looks like a strangely proportioned leotard or swimsuit, the statement piece is designed to be worn on its own with heels and minimal accessories.

The ‘fantastical’ outfit, which is available from Net-a-Porter for a staggering £1,525, features a backless design and is fastened with two simple straps, while the high-cut shorts have the appearance of a ruffled leotard.

A description on the London-based retailer’s website said the unconventional outfit ‘speaks for itself’ and is sure to ‘spark so much joy’ with eager shoppers.

Net-a-Porter’s description continued: ‘Tomo Koizumi’s fantastical designs always spark so much joy, and his latest capsule collection for Emilio Pucci is guaranteed to do the same.

‘Inspired by the label’s Spring ’21 color palette and swirling prints, this playsuit is made from a confection of frothy pink, yellow and peach tulle and has tie-fastening straps framing the open back.

‘It’s a piece that really does speak for itself, so keep your accessories minimal.’

The ensemble is just one of 11 ‘voluminous’ pieces which are available in the collaboration between up-and-coming designer Tomo Koizumi and Emilio Pucci.

Other ruffled designs, which similarly resemble a bright bath loofah, include a unique halter-neck top, a ruffled tulle skirt, and a T-shirt with ruffled sleeves.

According to Net-a-Porter, the vibrant splash of orange, pink and yellow on the outfits is inspired by Emilio Pucci’s iconic ‘Vetrate’ print.
