Former Sunday Night star Melissa Doyle says she wants to challenge the stigma around ageing in new podcast which was ‘inspired by real life’

Melissa Doyle is one of the most renowned faces in the country and now the former TV presenter is turning her attention to more pressing matters.

The 51-year-old has announced she is planning to tackle the stigma based around aging via honest dialogue with her friend Naima Brown as the two will launch their podcast called Age Against the Machine.  

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Mel said the seven-episode podcast ‘was inspired by real-life experience.’

‘I turned 50 last year so it was just one of those conversations I don’t think we always have openly in society in general and amongst friends, male colleagues, female colleagues and family members.’

She also told the publication that as men get older, they’re almost celebrated, with the likes of George Clooney being called ‘silver foxes’. 

However, in contrast she claims that as a society, ‘I don’t think we have embraced that enough in women.’

Mel’s podcast announcement comes mere months after an Instagram post she shared in February left fans shocked after confirming she turned 51, alongside a photo of herself flaunting her ageless visage.

The blonde host looked absolutely incredible in the image, which showed off her smooth skin and beaming smile – with one fan even claiming that she ‘still looked 21’.

Alongside the image, Melissa wrote: ’51 years on this planet and I’m embracing every experience, laugh line, challenge & opportunity.

‘Feeling very loved, and grateful I’m still having a ball !! #onlygettingstarted.’

Fans in their masses took to the comments section to share their surprise at Melissa’s age, with one writing: ‘You don’t even look it! Thought you were 40 – any chance of returning to news soon?’

‘Happy birthday Mel, you still look 21. You are ageless & gorgeous, enjoy every birthday from here as they are so worth celebrating,’ a second added.

‘No way! I remember basically growing up with you every morning, doing my make up and hair whilst getting ready for my first real job,’ a third added, while a fourth said: ‘You’re looking great for 51!’

During her career, Melissa hosted several of Seven’s flagship programs, including Sunrise, Today Tonight, 7News and Sunday Night.

Mel shares two children with her husband of 25 years, sports marketing executive John Dunlop – daughter Natalia, 17 and son Nick, 19.

Age Against the Machine will launch on Audible next week.
