Cody Simpson and his girlfriend since leaving Howard Springs quarantine to swim

Cody Simpson is out of quarantine and ready to swim in the Australian National Championships later this week.

The popstar turned Olympic hopeful was spotted back in his hometown of the Gold Coast, in Queensland on Monday.

Walking hand-in-hand with the 24-year-old singer was his American model girlfriend Marloes Stevens, who opted for a trendy ensemble.

The 28-year-old stunner wore an oversized green sweatshirt from Australian fashion label Jagger & Stone, with black bike shirts and white sneakers.

Her beau opted for a casual look of a grey T-shirt with charcoal coloured trousers, a ‘New York City’ cap and camouflage-print sneakers.

Following behind the loved up pair appeared to be his younger siblings Alli and Tom Simpson, who joined the pair on their stroll around the neighbourhood.

Cody’s return Down Under comes as he prepares to take part in the Australian National Championships, which will take place in Southport.

Prior to flying into Gold Coast, Cody and Marloes, who have been dating since December 2020, had undertaken 14 days in Howard Springs quarantine, in Darwin.

Earlier this year, Cody revealed to The New York Times what inspired him to jump back into the pool and compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He explained he decided he still had a shot in the pool after seeing American swimmer Caeleb Dressel – who is five months his junior – beat a record set by Michael Phelps in 2019.

‘I stopped drinking that night and started finding pools the next day,’ Cody, who hails from the Gold Coast, said.

Despite having an incredibly successful music career that saw him discovered on YouTube and signed by an American record label in 2010, at the age of 13, his childhood Olympic dreams were bigger.

‘I love the music industry very much, and I’ll continue to be a musician long into my life, but it’s not as pure of a pursuit as sport, which just comes straight down to the clock,’ he told The New York Times.

In December, Cody’s swimming coach Brett Hawke told The Daily Telegraph that Cody wants to make the 2024 Paris Olympics and win gold in the 100m butterfly.

‘The goal is Paris 2024, certainly not Tokyo. You’ll have three years to watch him progress,’ Brett said.

Brett, a former freestyle Olympic swimmer, also said of Cody’s sheer determination: ‘It’s 5am in LA and we are about to dive into a cold pool. If I didn’t see potential I would be in bed right now.’

It comes after Cody announced he’d qualified for the Australian swimming trials by swimming the 100m butterfly in 54.9 seconds, beating the benchmark of 56.87 seconds.
