Matthew ‘Matty J’ Johnson becomes teary while talking about his daughters on Dancing With The Stars

‘I think of my girls and it makes me want to cry’: Matthew ‘Matty J’ Johnson becomes teary while talking about his young daughters Marlie-Mae and Lola on Dancing With The Stars

Matthew ‘Matty J’ Johnson grew emotional while talking about his two young daughters, Marlie-Mae and Lola, on Tuesday’s episode of Dancing With The Stars.

The 33-year-old former Bachelor star admitted he was finding the dance moves to his next routine ‘so confusing’ and put it down to sleepless nights with his daughters.

‘I’m exhausted. Not only is it physically demanding, but I’ve got two little girls. One is a newborn, so sleep is something that I’m not getting a lot of,’ he confessed.

‘My head right now is just so cloudy, and I can’t retain information, which is so frustrating.’

As he continued to discuss his two young daughters, Matty became teary-eyed: ‘I think of my girls and it makes me want to cry.’

‘All I want to do is make my family proud. So that’s why I’m dancing,’ the emotional father-of-two added.

Matty shares daughters Marlie-Mae, 14 months, and Lola, two months, with his fiancée, Laura Byrne, who he met on the 2017 season of The Bachelor.

In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald in September, Matty spoke about his love of being a stay-at-home dad.

‘Being a dad is hard work, but for all those sleepless nights, it’s when your child smiles at you that you realise everything is okay,’ he said.

He also confessed that becoming a father had caused him to become ‘very emotional’.

‘I feel very emotional as a dad. I was always that guy who noticed other dads in the park playing with their kids long before I had my own child,’ he added.

In a post on Instagram in February, Matty shared a sweet video of himself cradling a sleeping Lola and captioned it: ‘I’m sure there’ll come a time when I can watch this without crying’.
