A serving Greater Manchester Police officer has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

The 47-year-old man remains in custody where he is being questioned by detectives.

The officer had already been suspended from duty following allegations about his conduct in the workplace, but has now been accused of assaulting a woman in a patrol car while on duty. 

The officer has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and remains in police custody where he is being questioned by detectives.

It follows an investigation by the force’s Professional Standards Branch into alleged misconduct.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: ‘We can confirm we have received reports of misconduct in the workplace against a serving GMP officer, who has been suspended following these allegations.

‘An investigation is underway by our Professionals Standards Branch and a 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault as part of our enquiries.

‘He remains in custody for questioning.’
