Inside Sunrise host Natalie Barr’s morning routine

She is always vivacious, professional, and elegant as she hosts Sunrise between 5.30am and 9am. 

But a lot happens during Natalie Barr’s morning before viewers even tune in – starting with a very early wake-up alarm at 2.50am.

On Thursday, the 53-year-old TV host documented her daily routine to loyal Sunrise fans on Instagram, including a behind-the-scenes’ look at the show’s wardrobe department, hair and makeup room and co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s desk.

While most of Australia is still fast asleep, Natalie is already showered, dressed and ready to start her day at 3.12am.  

In her video, Natalie is seen makeup free in her Sydney kitchen as she makes herself her first, and only, coffee of the day.

Her at-home routine seemingly hasn’t changed much from when she was the show’s news reporter.

In a 2017 video she said she didn’t believe in the ‘snooze button’ and would jump ‘straight out of bed into the shower’ at 2.50am, and enjoy her only coffee of the day shortly after at 3am.

By 3.35am Natalie heads into the office while it’s still dark outside and is promptly  briefed on the day’s news and segments. 

Natalie then heads to the private office she shares with co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch.       

In her video, she also offered a glimpse of Channel Seven’s ladies’ changeroom, where the wardrobe department labels her clothing and accessories for the day.  

Then it’s into the hair and makeup chair around 4am to get ‘TV ready’.

‘We probably spend an hour in hair and makeup, I come in with wet hair as I wash it every second day and I read the papers and briefing notes as we go,’ she explained.  

After hair and makeup is done, and Nat has changed into her carefully selected ensemble for the day, she sneaks onto the live set to greet viewers at 5.30am.

Natalie’s move to the co-host role came after Samantha Armytage stepped down from Sunrise after eight years on the program last month.
