A Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? contestant lost out on a staggering £93,000 on last night’s show after her ‘phone a friend’ offered the wrong answer to a geography question.
For £250,000, Sarah Knapper, from Kennington, was asked by host Jeremy Clarkson: ‘What body of water connects the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean?’
The solicitor was given the options of Windward Passage, Yucatan Channel, San Bernardino Strait, and the Bay of Campeche.
Unsure of the answer, Sarah used her ‘phone a friend’ lifeline and called her pal Barbara for some advice, with the friend suggesting Windward Passage was the right answer.
However, the contestant’s gamble didn’t pay off, with the correct answer being the Yucatan Channel. Sarah walked away with just £32,000 thanks to her safety net – despite answering the prior question worth £125,000 correctly.

Sarah was hoping to win a large amount of money on the episode, which first aired in August 2019, to put towards a fancy honeymoon.
The solicitor stormed through the first seven questions in just 15 minutes, before using her ‘Ask the Host’ and ‘ 50/50’ lifelines on a question about the year of Concorde’s last commercial flight.
Sarah was also forced to use her ‘Ask the Audience’ lifeline in the next question, which asked: ‘In what area are the names Carly Floss and Joan Smalls known?’
However, it seemed the player might still have a chance at winning the top prize of £1million after successfully answering everything up to question 13 out of 15.

The options were either A) Windward Channel, B) Yucatan Canal, C) San Bernardino Channel and D) Campeche Bay.
Unsure about the question, Sarah called her friend Barbara, who works in shipping, because she felt she would be better equipped to secure the correct answer.
However, Barbara delivered the wrong response, guessing Windward Passage – but when Sarah gambled, she claimed she would be ‘happy’ if the answer was wrong because she’d had a great time on the show.
Jeremy revealed the answer was wrong, expressing his sympathy for Sarah, saying: ‘Desperately sorry because I do love a gambler and I have thoroughly enjoyed having you here.

‘How can I put a cheery spin on this?’ Jeremy then questioned.
Remaining upbeat, Sarah noted she was £32,000 richer than she had been before appearing on the programme.
Viewers were quick to comment on the episode, with one writing: ‘It’s OK? I’d be in tears for ten years! At least.’
Another said: ‘When contestants say it’s OK when they just lost £93,000. No it’s not OK. I’d be fuming. Who are these people?’
A third joked: ‘Barbara won’t be getting a Christmas card this year #whowantstobeamillionaire.’
