Kayaker ‘who breached Covid rules to travel from England to Scotland’s Loch Lomond’ is recused after he got stuck on island without paddle

- He travelled to an island in Loch Lomond and lost a paddle, leaving him stranded
- The Loch Lomond Rescue Boat was called out to save him at 1.50pm last week
A kayaker who is thought to have travelled from England to Scotland in breach of Covid rules to go camping has been rescued after getting stuck on an island.
The man had been camping on the west side of Inchtavannach on Loch Lomond over the Easter weekend.
Yesterday afternoon he went for a walk around the island but found his kayak’s paddle missing when he returned.

The kayaker then contacted police around 1.50pm to ask for help.
Loch Lomond Rescue Boat (LLRB) said it was contacted by police and went to the scene to transfer the man to Luss on the mainland.
The kayaker was rescued, along with his camping equipment, from the island and taken back to the mainland.
In a Facebook post, LLRB said: ‘The rescue boat was launched and located the person on the island and safely transferred himself and his equipment over to his car at Aldochlay.

‘LLRB then returned to Luss and stood down. This person had travelled from England to camp on the island for the Easter weekend.
‘Please could we remind all to stick to the Covid rules and keep people safe.’
Current coronavirus rules in Scotland ban people from taking non-essential trips that cross into the country from the different UK countries.
