Don Johnson, 71, confirms he’s in ‘heavy prep’ for Nash Bridges reboot with co-star Cheech Marin


He found fame as undercover police detective Sonny Crockett in the hit 80s TV series Miami Vice.

And now Don Johnson is bringing back another of his beloved small screen characters – Inspector Nash Bridges of the San Francisco Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit.

Johnson, 71, confirmed during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday that he’s currently prepping a revival of the show that ran for six seasons from 1996 to 2000.

‘We’re in heavy prep for a reboot of Nash Bridges,’ the actor shared with the daytime chat show host.

‘We find Nash some years later and Cheech is going to come back and join me, and Jeff Perry, and we’ve got a pretty exciting show that we’re prepping in San Francisco right now,’ he said.

Cheech Marin played Nash’s partner Joe Dominguez in the long-running series which had the pair cruising the streets of San Francisco in Nash’s distinctive yellow 1971 convertible.  

Perry had a supporting role as Inspector Harvey Leek.

Other well-known actors who were part of the cast included Jodi Lyn O’Keefe as Nash’s teen daughter, Annette O’Toole as his ex-wife and former Baywatch star Yasmine Bleethe as Inspector Caitlin Cross. 

A Nash Bridges reboot had been rumored about in the summer of 2019, according to bleedingcool.com .

The outlet reports that the plan is for a two-hour TV movie that could lead to a new series.

Nash will still be running San Francisco’s Special Investigations unit but ‘confronting a changing city, a new boss, and a world in which police work focuses on modern data-crunching, predictive policing, and community relations.’ 

In the meantime, fans can catch Johnson in the new sitcom Kenan in which he plays the father-in-law of widowed Kenan Thompson who is raising his two young daughters as a single dad.
