Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk recalls getting yelled at by Jeremy Irons at Saturday Night Live for writing a monologue that ‘wasn’t great’

Bob Odenkirk wasn’t always beloved by everyone in Hollywood.

The Better Call Saul star, 58, recalled getting yelled at by Jeremy Irons while he was a writer on Saturday Night Live.

‘You know who really yelled at me? Jeremy Irons,’ the actor explained during a remote appearance on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday. ‘Because Rob Schneider and I had written this monologue, I think, and it wasn’t great.’

Bob wrote for the famed NBC sketch comedy series between the late 1980s into the 1990s, when Jeremy, 72, hosted the show in 1991.

‘He was right,’ the star added with a laugh. ‘He was really mad. He was so mad.’

When the radio show host asked how it went down, Odenkirk did his best impression of the Oscar-winning actor.

‘”I can sing. I can dance. I can juggle. I am a Shakespearean-trained actor. And you have me doing this?!,'” he imitated.

Without Irons’ knowledge, Odenkirk actually recorded the exchange and admitted to saving it as a memento for years.

‘I had a little recorder, and I taped it because I loved it so much,’ he continued.

‘I played it for many people. I don’t know where it is now. It’s at the bottom of a bin somewhere. It exists.’

Fellow former SNL writer Conan O’Brien told the radio icon in 2019 that he and Odenkirk were yelled at by late former Yankees’ owner George Steinbrenner after pitching him an idea for the opening monologue when he hosted in 1990.

‘Odenkirk and I s— ourselves and disappeared from the room. We literally went right through the wall like ghosts, and I don’t think we spoke for a week,’ the talk show host recalled.
