The release partially read, ‘Drawing from his unique experience…as a renowned rapper, producer and performer, Snoop Dogg will impart a new and fresh perspective to help the artists craft their performances.’

Snoop also played a part in making the big news public and posted a video to his respective Twitter and Instagram on Thursday to let his millions of followers know about his new television role.

The Voice is currently hosted by John Legend and Kelly Clarkson, as well as Blake Shelton and Nick Jonas. Past Mega Mentors include Usher, Taylor Swift and James Taylor, among several others.

During the video, the hitmaker stated, ‘I know today is April Fool’s Day, but I got something to say that’s no joke. On April 19th, I am officially appearing on The Voice…as the season 20 Mega Mentor.’

He was also seen interacting with the show’s coaches, and Shelton commented that the musician’s involvement with the show was more unusual than his collaborative television series with Martha Stewart, Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.

During a conversation with the judges, the rapper boasted about his abilities as a performer and remarked, ‘when I take you on that rollercoaster hold on, because you might fall off.’

The hitmaker finished the video by expressing that his time on the show was ‘going to be lit.’

During the rounds, singers from each coach’s team compete against each other in an effort to be hand-picked by their respective mentor to advance in the competition.

Contestants are allowed to pick the songs they wish to sing for this part of the show, although they are not informed about who they will be competing against until shortly before their performances.

After the winners are determined, they will all compete in a Four-Way Knockout, with the top singer being crowned with a public vote.

Next week, the hit NBC show’s Battle Rounds are set to begin, during which two members from the same team are selected to test each other’s singing abilities, after which their coach picks who stays and who goes home.

The concept of steals, where one judge is allowed to select a defeated competitor from another team, is present in both rounds.
