Alan Carr reveals he is nervous about filming RuPaul’s Drag Race UK as he has ‘put on three stone’

Alan Carr has spoken of his nerves ahead of filming RuPaul’s Drag Race UK after ‘putting on three stone’ during lockdown.

Appearing remotely on This Morning on Thursday, the Chatty Man presenter, 44, revealed: ‘We stopped filming in February and the next thing you know we started in November when I’ve just eaten.’

Alan made the confession after being asked by presenter Holly Willoughby whether he felt nervous ‘about doing Drag Race.’

The comedian responded in full: ‘Only because I put on three stone. We stopped filming in February and the next thing you know we started in November when I’ve just eaten.

‘Do you remember when Oprah was on BBC and she was thin and then she was fat on Channel 4? That’s what it was like.’

Alan also touched upon the return of Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow, with the new season of the ITV programme featuring Harry and Sandra Redknapp, Nicola Adams and Ella Baig, Martin and Shirlie Kemp, and Catherine Tyldesley.

‘It’s weird but it works,’ he said. ‘We’ve got some great punters and they’re so excited because they’re allowed out of the house.’

Alan also told presenters Phillip Schofield, 59, and Holly, 40, that Sandra, 73, offered to cut his hair after a trip to a salon in Sardinia ended in disaster.

‘I went to the hairdressers in the resort and I don’t know any Sardinian and she didn’t know any English. Normally you’ve got magazines to point at,’ he explained.

‘She destroyed my hair and I was so upset and then Sandra said I used to be a hairdresser, I’ll cut your hair!’

The funnyman also confirmed that plenty of precautions were taken in light of the pandemic during filming of the game show, adding: ‘Everything is sanitised, there’s a lady wiping the card.’

Alan further gushed about the show’s ability to ‘lift spirits’, saying: ‘It came during lockdown and it tapped into that little bit of nostalgia where you can just turn the news off.

‘Everyone’s had a rubbish year and the one thing I’ve noticed is people are desperate to win those prizes just to lift their spirits.’

As for his own life during lockdown, Alan hilariously quipped that his partner Paul takes on all heavy duty tasks at home.

‘Paul my other half won’t let me near anything. I’m lighting a candle, pumping up a cushion, he’s the one with the power tools and stuff,’ he said.

Alan’s comments come weeks after he revealed he wants to try a wonder drug for tackling obesity known as ‘semaglutide’ to help him shift the extra pounds.

The Chatty Man presenter said he plans to try the drug that works by suppressing appetite and has been called a ‘game-changer’ by scientists.

Speaking on a March episode of his podcast, Life’s A Beach, with comedian Tom Allen, he admitted that he has tried ‘so many’ diets but is looking forward to trying the ‘pill’.

Alan said: ‘I’ve been on so many diets..I can’t wait for that pill.’

A recent study of the drug saw some people lose more than a fifth of their body weight during trials.

The results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine and showed people lost an average of 15kg on semaglutide compared with 2.6kg without.

In January, the comedian told The Mirror: ‘I did put on a lot of lockdown weight. People will think, ‘What the hell has he eaten because he has ballooned!’

‘I have been eating any old s**t. I think I have put on about three stone. You see skinny people on Instagram and they only have a slice of banana bread but I was eating the whole lot.’

Alan knew something was amiss when he put on his 36-inch waist jeans and couldn’t fit them over his stomach.

He vowed to rectify this, however, by making a pact with pal Judge Rinder.

‘I rang Rob up last year and said, “I am fat!” He said, “I am fat!” So we sent each other pictures and both agreed we were fat. We decided whoever had lost the least amount of weight by November 2nd would pay for dinner.’
