Josh Gad reaches out to eliminated American Idol singer Murphy and asks him to write a song for his animated series Central Park

Just as the singer known as Murphy ended his run on American Idol, a new opportunity presented itself from none other than Josh Gad.

Murphy was eliminated outside of the Top 24 on Sunday night’s episode of American Idol, as part of the Showstopper round.

Gad, 40, was impressed enough by the singe on Monday to offer him a job writing a song for Apple TV Plus’ Central Park, which he stars in and co-created.

‘Hey @Blindboy_music you were robbed on @AmericanIdol and I would love for you to honor us by writing a song for us on #CentralParkTV – DM me,’ Gad tweeted.

Just minutes later he replied back, ‘I’d be honored. 🙂 Dming you now.’ 

After his elimination on Sunday night, Murphy tweeted a message of support to allof his fans.

‘Thank you for everyone that showed faith in me. Though my journey is over on #AmericanIdol, I’l still be singing,’ Murphy began. 

‘Tomorrow is a new day and the horizon looks very inviting. #Murphyonidol See you soon. :)’ he concluded.

Gad co-created Central Park with Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard and Nora Smith.

The show follows Owen Tillerman (Leslie Odom Jr.) and his family, who live an unconventional life in New York’s bustling Central Park, which Owen manages.

The animated series also stars Daveed Diggs as Helen, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Molly, Kathryn Hahn as Paige, Stanley Tucci as Bitsy and Titus Burgess as Cole.

The show, which also features Gad as the narrator Birdie, was picked up for an early Season 3 renewal earlier this month, with the Season 2 premiere set for June 25.

Murphy auditioned in San Diego, singing Bill Withers’ Just the Two Of Us, along with an original song called The Painted Man.

While Katy Perry voted no, both Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan voted yes, sending him to Hollywood. 

He was placed in the Indie-Folk category during the Genre Challenge, where he sang I Got a Name by Jim Croce.
