TV doctor who is a Nigerian prince with legion of female fans insists he’s ‘married to his career’

An NHS frontline worker who has a legion of female admirers has revealed what it’s really like to be known as the ‘hot doctor’ at work – but still insists he is ‘married to his career’.

Dr Emeka Okorocha, 28, from London, who is also a Nigerian prince and had countless appearances on television news, works in the A&E department and Covid-19 wards, which he said has been ‘extremely emotional’ during the past year.

With the long hours and gruelling work that comes with being a doctor, there is often little time for a social or dating life, especially during a pandemic.

Yet thanks to his good looks, Dr Okorocha, who is third in line to the throne in his province in Nigeria, is often inundated with romantic offers from women – including from patients.

However, the TikTok famous doctor has said he’s currently ‘married to his career’, while admitting he dislikes how dates are now obsessed with talking about his job.

Sadly, for now, Dr Okorocha insisted he’s firmly off the market, explaining how his work is his number one priority.

He said: ‘Currently, I’m married to my career and there is no lucky lady in my life at the moment. I think with everything going on with the pandemic, including the lockdown, it’s hard to see people I know, let alone go dating.

‘But who knows what the future holds,’ he admitted. ‘I don’t have a type, I just want someone whom I have a great time with, even if it’s another doctor. Nothing beats being around someone who you have amazing chemistry with.’

But while most people might think being a doctor is a ‘good job’ to entice prospective partners, Dr Okorocha said that it can often work against him on dating apps.

He confessed: ‘I’ve realised that it’s great to be transparent and say who you are and what you do – however, sometimes it works against you. People often have their own preconceptions of what being a doctor entails.

‘I love what I do and I’m proud to do it, but I’d rather it didn’t dominate every conversation.I love to listen and learn so I’m often far more interested in other people talking about themselves.’

But he added: ‘Dating now is pretty much non-existent so the apps can be great at times because you can’t go out to meet people, and even before the pandemic, they could be helpful as being a doctor is pretty demanding on your time and social life.’

‘I’ve worked for a while on loads of different wards and I must admit I’ve had some very interesting experiences,’ he revealed.

‘The ones that I find most flattering are where elderly ladies I’ve been treating have tried to set me up with their granddaughters and great-nieces. It’s always a good laugh and I’m always game to lift a patient’s spirit.’

Even when he does bag himself a date, Dr Okorocha’s busy work schedule can get in the way – as he recalls once having to leave a romantic meal with one woman due to a medical emergency.

He said: ‘I was out having a meal with someone and unfortunately a member of the public had a seizure and somebody shouted for a doctor. So, instantly I shot up from the table to go help. I felt a bit like Clark Kent that evening!’

Despite earning himself the title of ‘hot doc’, the healthcare professional said he doesn’t take it too seriously, and his main priority will always be work.

Dr Okorocha said: ‘It always makes me laugh when I hear that term.

‘Honestly, I love to look good wherever I am and work is no exception but as flattered as I may be about being called a ‘hot doctor’, my main goal is always to do the best clinically for my patients, and that’s always going to be my main focus.’

Speaking about the pandemic, Dr Okorocha said life on the frontline has been extremely difficult and he’s often experienced burnout.

He said: ‘I have been on the giving end of terrible news more times than I can count. The most heartbreaking thing I’ve witnessed was a mother-of-five in her 50s who I treated.

‘I grew very close to the family after speaking to them daily and unfortunately, I had to explain how she took a sudden turn for the worst and passed away overnight.

‘However, I’ve learned a lot about how to be grateful in life and to take my health as seriously as possible.’

And Dr Okorocha takes his fitness seriously too – hitting the gym as often as he can to stay in shape.

He said: ‘I always prioritise my fitness and make time for some form of exercise. I organise my workouts at the beginning of the week, so I know exactly when I will be working out and what kind of workout I will be doing. It is a great mood booster and helps my productivity.’

Dr Okorocha has partnered with the AI-based fitness and lifestyle coaching app, Freeletics.

He added: ‘This partnership is ideal for me as a huge part of my life in being a doctor is to advocate for good physical and mental health.

‘Freeletics has a range of HIIT, cardio and strength training workouts and I aim to work out for at least 15 minutes each day which is why I love their 15-minute training journey so much. Perfect for people with a time-consuming job like me.’
