Man claims his form of dream therapy can take clients on ‘mind holidays’

Man who invented his own form of therapy baffles This Morning viewers by claiming he can take clients on ‘mind holidays’ which give the ‘comfort of a real break’

  •  Martin Rothery, Derbyshire, invented his own therapy called Sanomentology
  • He claims he can put clients into a dream like state to replicate going on holiday
  • Tried to put This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield into trance
  • But viewers weren’t convinced by the technique calling the method ‘crazy’

A man who invented his own form of dream therapy claims he can take clients on ‘mind holidays’, which can provide the ‘relaxation and comfort’ of having a real break.

Martin Rothery, from Derbyshire, devised his own holistic therapeutic method called Sanomentology, which he says can allow clients to slip into a natural dream state, allowing the ‘body to respond physiologically’.

He appeared on This Morning today where he attempted to take hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield on a trip to Portugal, without leaving the studio in west London.

Viewers weren’t convinced by the therapy with one calling the method ‘crazy’ while another said it was like ‘dangling a carrot’, with holidays abroad for UK residents likely off the cards until August.

Speaking of his technique, Martin said: ‘We can use it to give the entertainment factor of taking a holiday and having other experiences.

‘The unconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between fantasy and reality. If you’re experiencing a holiday within your dream, your body will respond physiologically, find the relaxation, the comfort of having that break.’

He claimed that our minds have become ‘muddled’ in the modern day with an overflow of information, and that his service can help you slip into a natural state of dreaming.

‘The problem nowadays is our lives are too hectic,’ said Martin. ‘They’re so busy with a constant inflow of information.

‘When this process evolved, the power of the dream, we used to worry – do we have a nice cave to live in? Do you have enough food for our family? That was about it.

‘Now we worry about everything, so our dreams have become more muddled and they don’t perform as they should. We can more directly guide that to make it happen.’

He insisted his method is different to hypnosis, because Sanomentology allows you to control the dream state your mind is in.

‘We instigate that natural dream state, the same state you’d have when you’re reading a book, watching a film and we give the unconscious mind that freedom to resolve or enjoy itself as it likes.’

Admitting that his method usually takes around 20 minutes rather than the five he was allotted for the segment, Martin tried to put Holly and Phil into a dream trance and take them away on a ‘mind holiday’.

Baffled viewers weren’t convinced, and quickly took to Twitter to share their views, with one writing: ‘I feel the warmth because the sun is shining in my room’.

One agreed: ‘Whattt…this is crazy’, while another added: ‘This is like dangling a carrot lol’.

A fourth agreed: ‘How can they be taking this seriously I’d rather wait to go on holiday than do this.’
