Baby name wars! Mum is furious after finding out her cousin wants to call her child almost EXACTLY the same name as her daughter – so whose side are you on?

An expectant mother has sparked a feud with her pregnant cousin who wants to give her baby almost the exact same name as her unborn child ‘Mia’.
Leanne, from Sydney, who’s six months pregnant, said she had known for most of her life if she was to ever have a baby daughter, she was going to name her Mia.
And so she was left shocked when her five-month-pregnant cousin Marie recently told her she wanted to call her baby girl Mia too – but pronounced ‘My-a’.

‘The other day we were having coffee, and then she brought up she wanted to call her girl “Mya” – it’s a lovely name,’ Leanne told KIISFM radio duo Kyle and Jackie O during a ‘petty gripe’ segment.
‘Except, ages ago I mentioned I wanted to call my daughter “Mia”. She should have remembered it. They are totally different names but the issue is I asked her how are you going to spell that? And she goes “M-I-A”… That’s Mia.’
The radio duo got Marie on the phone so Leanne could try and convince her to change her unborn baby’s name.
‘I talked about it growing up as kids that if I ever had a girl, I would call her Mia. Do you remember that?’ Leanne asked, to which Marie confidently responded: ‘No.’
Leanne continued: ‘You want to call yours Mya, which sounds different but you’re spelling it the same.’
Marie said she ‘liked the spelling’ of Mia but insist her daughter’s name will be ‘pronounced differently’.

A furious Leanne responded: ‘It’s Mia, any normal person would read that and see Mia,’ to which Marie said: ‘Right, so you’re ringing me up on radio because you want to change the future name of my child? Can’t we have this discussion off air?’
Leanne explained that Marie’s daughter Mya will spend the rest of her life correcting people every time they pronounce her name as Mia.
‘So you’re fine with other kids and new teachers going “oh hi Mia” and she’s like “it’s Mya.” Her whole life she’s going to be like “it’s Mya”,’ Leanne said.
‘We’re going to have second cousins with pretty much the same name. I said ages ago I wanted mine Mia, and then you’re now going Mya. Like come on, do you not have any creative bone in your body?’
Marie responded, saying: ‘I didn’t think there was a problem until now… but I’m pretty set with the name,’ to which Leanne interjected: ‘That’s bullsh**.’
Leanne added: ‘She’s always been the favourite. I’m sick of it.’
