‘I felt like I had been kicked in the nuts by a horse!’ Former NRL star Ben Hannant from HIT90.9 surprises wife Emma with vasectomy news live on air

Ben Hannant has spectacularly revealed the news of his vasectomy live on air.

The HIT90.9 breakfast show star broke the news to wife Emma as his shocked co-hosts Bianca Dye and Ben Anstey listened in.

‘We’ve been married for a long time and we’re very honest with each other, there’s no secrets, no nothing… but, I’ve done something,’ the former NRL star began his big reveal.

Ben continued: ‘Yesterday I went to the doctors and got a vasectomy.’

Emma pretended to be annoyed, asking ‘What if I changed my mind [about having more kids]?’

A momentarily panicked Ben tried to explain, before Emma put him out of his misery, saying ‘Nah, I’m joking, I’m joking.’

Hannant’s co-hosts immediately burst out laughing.

The former athlete-turned-serious as he told his wife, ‘I thought this is probably the nicest thing… if you take this the right way… the nicest way to show you I love you.’

The mum-of-eight replied, ‘It’s a hard one for me because I’ve been pregnant and breastfeeding for 16 years. It’s a actually really scary stage for me in my life, who will I be next, who am I other than mum.’

‘At the same time I can’t do it forever and my body has taken a bit of a knock, so it’s exciting as well,’ she added. 

‘Well, I felt like I had been kicked in the nuts by a horse!’ Ben quipped.

No stranger to big families, Hannant is one of eleven children. 

As an NRL player, the 36-year-old won two premierships, with the Broncos in 2006 and with the Cowboys in 2015.

Ben began co-hosting the then SEA FM breakfast show in November 2016.
