This is the shocking moment a five-year-old boy plummets from a 12th-storey apartment window but survives because he fell into thick snow. 

CCTV footage shows the boy fall and land face first in the snow beneath the apartment in Ufa, Bashkortostan in Russia on Monday. 

He was admitted to hospital in a serious condition but has since been stablisied after undergoing three operations.    

According to local media, the young boy was home alone when he fell out of the 12th-floor window.

Footage shows the boy falling face first into a mound of snow. He appears bewildered at first but can be seen trying to move.

Eventually he gets his bearings and manages to put his hands down into the snow to push himself up on to his knees.

He then lies backwards into the snow and a woman can be seen running over to him.

She puts a hat on him and gets passersby to bring blankets and jackets to keep him warm.

Paramedics then arrive to help the boy and lift him on to a stretcher

According to the news site Vesti, the boy was immediately taken to the Ufa Hospital No 17. 

Following a preliminary investigation, it is believed the boy was home alone when the incident took place. It is unclear where his parents were and no comments have been made at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
