The modelling industry has long been plagued by allegations of mistreatment of young girls – often by men.

And former Miss Universe Australia Laura Dundovic, 33, has revealed she took special precautions to remain safe while growing up as a teen model.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia at the Women In Business luncheon in Sydney on Wednesday, Laura recalled how she was chaperoned by her mother during most of her earlier photoshoots.

‘I had family support’: Laura  Dundovic, 33, told Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday that she took her mother to most of her photoshoots while growing up as a teen model

‘I’ve always felt pretty safe. In terms of modelling I did start at 16 but I had my mum come to a lot of things with me so I never felt uncomfortable because I had family support,’ she said.

However, Laura insisted that many businesses still need to improve the way women are treated in the workplace.

‘Obviously there is room for improvement but it depends on the company and country,’ she said.
