Viewers slam MAFS producers for allowing Bryce Ruthven’s gaslighting behaviour towards ‘wife’ Melissa Rawson to play out on screens

Married At First Sight’s Bryce Ruthven has received plenty of backlash for his gaslighting behaviour towards ‘wife’ Melissa Rawson.

But viewers are now directing their frustrations towards the show’s producers, questioning why they allowed such a toxic relationship play out on screens.

Tweets slamming producers flooded in during Sunday night’s commitment ceremony, after Melissa told the experts that she felt ‘frightened’ and ‘scared’ to rock the boat in her relationship – even though Bryce had treated her with disrespect on multiple occasions.

Leading the backlash against producers was Gogglebox star Yvie Jones, who claimed she found Melissa’s words ‘troubling’ and felt that producers should intervene.

‘Where is the duty of care from producers to even put her in that position? And if pap shots are correct, they’re still together,’ she Tweeted.

She continued in another Tweet: ‘So are they sitting at home watching this together? Is he seeing her say this on TV, alone in their shared home? Is he gaslighting her right now?’

Elsewhere, another Twitter user wrote: ‘It makes me sick watching this insidious relationship unfold… The producers have created a f**king abhorrent narrative between Bryce and Melissa.’

‘Producers only care about the ratings!!’ another added.

So far on MAFS, Bryce has infamously humiliated Melissa for her physical appearance, showed little regard for her feelings during arguments and admitted to ‘hooking up’ with a girl just two months before going on MAFS.

It comes after Bryce was berated by his own mother for his questionable actions toward soft-spoken Melissa during Monday night’s episode.

Frustrated by her son’s disrespectful behaviour, Bryce’s mother slammed him for placing his wife fourth in the bride ranking challenge, and for his combative argument style.

‘You’ve also got to take on board how do you think Melissa’s gonna feel wanting to support you, and all you’re doing is really embarrassing her.’

‘In all honesty, I don’t know why she’s sitting next to you at this point,’ she said.

Melissa’s own family said they were ‘heartbroken’ over some of the comments Bryce has made to her.

However, the couple later they wouldn’t allow their families opinions to come between them.

Bryce also suggested that he and Melissa distance themselves from the other ‘jealous’ couples in the experiment.
