Disney Plus has another hit on its hands with the new Marvel Studios series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which had an impressive debut.

The studio revealed on Monday that the first episode, which debuted on Disney Plus on Friday, was the most-watched series premiere since the streaming service launched in November 2019.

While no specific viewership data was released, it was revealed that the debut was higher than that of recent hits WandaVision and The Mandalorian.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was also the most-watched program on the streaming service worldwide last week, including all of its Disney Plus Hotstar international markets.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision and the Season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian are the most-watched original season debuts on Disney Plus.

Still, the streaming service has released much fewer major releases since launching in November 2019, when compared to Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu.

While the numbers haven’t been confirmed by Disney, TV software and data analysis firm Samba TV revealed 1.7 million households watched The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

That number is just slightly ahead of the 1.6 million households who watched the WandaVision premiere back in January. 

Disney Plus recently announced a monthly price increase of $1 to $7.99 a month which goes into effect March 26.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, following The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) as they team up on a new mission.

After The Falcon and the Winter Soldier debuts, Loki will follow on June 11, with What If?, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye slated to debut this year as well.

It was also revealed on Monday that Disney Plus is already developing a spin-off of Hawkeye, according to another Variety report.

The show will center on the Echo character, who will be played by Alaqua Cox, a deaf Native American character who has the ability to perfectly mimic another person’s fighting style.

Echo was also the first person in the Marvel Comics to hold the title of Ronin, before that was passed to Hawkeye, a.k.a. Clint Barton.

Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen are attached to write and executive produce the spin-off series, with a writers room being assembled.
