The Bachelorette: Angie Kent felt ‘humiliated’ by sleazy Jess Glasgow

Last week the Councillor Conduct Tribunal went ahead for the Jess Glasgow investigation into his behaviour on my season of The Bachelorette. I was torn whether or not I wanted to say anything. Probably because of the fear of the unknown, which been conditioned into a lot of women. Then I thought if I don’t say anything I feel it would make me complicit? Or that I am okay with this type of behaviour? Or that I’m still scared to speak my truth out of judgement or abuse etc. Or perhaps if I ignore it then maybe it will go away? Well it has almost been two full years since the event occurred, and evidently it has not gone away. Which in a way I now see as a blessing.

I keep seeing a whole lot more of this extremely large-ego-fragility-blame game bulls**t all over my TV, in the media, social media and in this case, on the news back in my hometown.

This situation isn’t just about me. It is what we have been enduring overall as women for centuries and I have kept quiet off and on my entire life. I’m sure most of us have!

Before I delve into this too much, by no means is this a post directed specifically at Jess alone. I don’t want this to be a chance to s**t can the bloke even more so than he has already received. This is an opportunity to call out unwanted conditioned practices, and celebrate the hope for change!

Jess did apologise to me right after the episode aired (funny that it had to take the episode to air before I received an apology, but hey c’est la vie). Am I shocked? Nope. But I did appreciate the apology and thought s**t yeah, maybe this was the chance for growth and recognition from him and for any other man who didn’t care for this kind of situation when they were watching it. But sadly, no. To stand there now, two years on and blame his multiple shameful performances on an edit?

If it was hugely edited, then why did I feel so embarrassed and humiliated? Why did other men on the show seem to have quite the issue with him? And members of the crew? And why have I had fathers, mothers, friends reach out to me saying it didn’t sit right with them either? Not to mention the whopping amount messages from women saying they have had to tolerate this kind of behaviour from men (and this particular person) most of their lives. Far too often.

Growing up I was often told I was “too much”, or to be quiet and not get so “worked up” over men and their actions or comments… To simply get over it or ignore it. Finally the time has come where I don’t feel like I expect too much from men by wanting them to respect me. Start owning your s**t and changing your past conditioning by wanting to do more… or soon those of you who lack the ability to own your s**t and make changes you’ll see what it feels like to be “less than half”.

Women are not collateral damage for the male ego. We know it’s been a culture of learned entitlement… Which we can unlearn!

‘It’s OK to not originally know your behaviour is toxic due to white male domination, fragility and privilege. But when a whole group of people are screaming out and standing up, and men keep blaming it on “bad days” or “edits” – perhaps it’s time to listen and do the work within?

Where’s the evidence? The evidence is right in front of you fellas!!!!

Remember… if a man can’t accept and respect what I am puttin’ down, I’d rather be single for the rest of my life! I will never allow a man to come in and f**k with my sisterhood!
