Jamie Durie reveals he left home at 14 after suffering abuse in harrowing interview with Anh Do

Jamie Durie has spoken candidly about his childhood in a harrowing interview with Anh Do.

The 50-year-old gardening guru will reveal how he left home at the age of 14 after suffering abuse in the season premiere of Anh’s Brush with Fame on Tuesday night.

In a preview for the episode, Jamie told Anh that he moved out of home because he didn’t get along with his stepfather.

He then moved in with a ‘mentor’ but eventually left.

‘There are traces of those months that still haunt me every now and then but you learn to get on with life,’ he said.

‘Sadly that type of abuse affects one in four boys these days, and girls.’

During the episode, Jamie also spoke about hard his mother Joy worked to provide for him.

‘I can remember scrubbing showers with her when I was 10,’ he said.

‘I hated her doing that, going to these rich people’s houses, scrubbing their dirty loudly showers.’

It comes one week after the gardener announced that he has popped the question to model partner Ameka Jane.

The House Rules star shared a series of sweet images with fans from the proposal, including pictures of the unique ring and the elaborate floral set up he used to ask for her hand in marriage.

‘She said YES! Thrilled to announce our engagement,’ Jamie wrote on Instagram.

‘Thank you to my beautiful @amekajane for turning my life upside down. I couldn’t be happier. Magic night for a magic girl.’
