The Mighty Ducks’ original stars are set to REUNITE for an episode of the classic film’s Disney+ remake

The original cast for The Mighty Ducks are set to reunite in an episode of the Disney+ remake, it was announced on Friday.

Emilio Estevez has already revealed to be returning as Coach Gordon Bombay in the The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers show, but Entertainment Weekly reported that even more stars are making a comeback in the sixth episode.

Elden Henson, Matt Doherty, Vincent LaRusso, Marguerite Moreau, Garret Henson, and Justin Wong are returning to their roles as Fulton, Averman, Adam, Connie, Guy, and Kenny respectively.

Show creator Steven Brill said of the reunion: ‘It starts with a fun encounter Coach Bombay has with Fulton – they have an interesting run-in on the street, reminiscent of ways they used to meet each other back in the early days.

‘This chance meeting between Bombay and Fulton leads to a bigger story.’

Reflecting on the plot, Elden added: ‘There is a Spirit of the Ducks gala where they’re honouring the current coach and the history of the Ducks and that’s what brings us all back together.’

The episode will see Fulton invite Bombay to a small reunion at a pizza parlour, and Emilio said that while it starts as ‘super positive’ things go ‘of the rails’ quickly.

The Disney+ show follows 13-year-old Evan, played by Brady Noon, who is informed that he is being cut from an ice hockey team due to his inexperience on the rink.

Evan and his mother Alex (Lauren Graham) then try to find players, a coach, and a place to play so that they can compete in the junior division.

The original 1992 film follows self-centred lawyer Bombay (Estevez) who becomes a coach for a kids’ ice hockey team as part of his community service.

It was shortly followed by the acclaimed sequel D2: The Mighty Ducks in 1994, and then D3: The Mighty Ducks in 1996.

Development on the show was first announced in 2018; the original 1992 film’s writer and producer returned to come up with the idea for the new series.

Shooting was set to begin during last year’s winter season and finish by late spring, but the onset of the global pandemic forced filming to be delayed.

After several months of inactivity, principal photography officially began in September and concluded in December.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is currently set to debut on March 26.
