Katharine McPhee says her husband David Foster is ‘annoyed’ with her for revealing son Rennie’s name

Katharine McPhee says that husband David Foster is a bit ‘annoyed’ with her after she revealed their son Rennie’s name during a sit down on the Today show on Wednesday.

The singer/actress, 36, explained why she spilled the beans when friend Hoda Kotb put her on the spot, telling Jess Cagle she didn’t want to seem ‘pretentious.’

‘What was I supposed to say?’ the new mom wondered while appearing on the entertainment reporter’s SiriusXM show. ‘”I’m sorry, we’re not sharing the name?”‘ 

‘Cause we don’t want to be like that pretentious over the name, but just, it’s the only kind of thing you can hold on to that feels private, you know, that you can kind of keep. 

‘But Hoda [Kotb] just asked me on the Today Show like “What’s his name?’ And I was didn’t want to be like, “sorry, we’re not sharing it.”

‘You can’t say no to Hoda,’ Katharine said. 

‘My husband’s friends with her too. So anyway, I think he’s like a little bit, he’s just like, “It’s the only thing we have to keep private.” And I’m like, “I’m sorry. She asked me the question.”

Since Rennie’s name is no longer a secret, McPhee was excited to explain the story behind it.

‘We love the name. We’re so we’re so in love with him,’ Katharine said. ‘It’s really, it’s so original. And it came to us like honestly, two hours before he was born.

‘So it’s a really great, it was a, it’s a family name, but one of his family members didn’t tell us about til hours before he was born. And we, I kind of like it sort of took my breath away.’

The named seemed to come at the perfect time for the American Idol alum, who said she was ‘waiting for something like that’ but ‘ just didn’t think it would happen.’

‘We were going to name him something totally different, which was a great name, but not something that meant something.’

‘So anyway, yes, the cat’s out of the bag,’ Katharine went on. 

‘It’s not like, you know, we’re the only people who’ve named our child something, but it’s just, we wanted to keep it as private as long as we could. So anyway, I’m in trouble, but hopefully, hopefully my husband will not be too mad.’

Katharine and David announced their son’s birth on February 24, 2020 via her rep’s statement to People.

The pair tied the knot on June 28, 2019 at the Armenian Church of St Yeghiche in South Kensington, London.

This is Katharine’s first child and their first together; he has five daughters and has been married five times total. 

His children are Allison Jones Foster, 50, whom was born when David was 20 and she was placed for adoption only yo reconnect thirty years later, as well as daughters Amy Skylark, 47, Sara Foster, 40, Erin Foster, 38, and Jordan Foster, 34.
