‘I’ve always been fascinated by the ocean and grew up by the beach,’ he said.

‘What I love most about our beaches is their accessibility; they’re just a footpath away from a buzzing and fast-paced city’ he added.

It comes after Anthony spoke to The Daily Telegraph on Monday about the ‘challenging times’ he’s had to overcome in his line of work.

‘Deaths have happened before and unfortunately it’s probably going to happen again – that’s the reality of the job,’ he said.

‘With the bad comes the good and there’s a lot more good than bad so you’ve kind of got to deal with it. We have a good support network for those challenging times.’

Anthony, who hails from Johannesburg, said lifeguards can’t afford to dwell on the dark side of the job, but must instead try to stay focused.

He has since become a staple on the Channel 10 show, known for his good looks, upbeat personality and photography skills.
