‘Just appreciate and enjoy it’: Orlando Bloom reflects on struggling with fame while in his twenties and admits he shouldn’t have taken it ‘so seriously’

Orlando Bloom has reflected on having an acting career for more than twenty years, saying he shouldn’t have taken fame ‘so seriously’ when he was young.

The actor, 44, spoke candidly with The Big Issue on Monday about his career and was asked what he’d tell his younger self in a letter.

Looking back, Orlando said: ‘In terms of preparing my younger self for “fame,” I would honestly just say you can’t take that stuff seriously. And you can’t let it stop you living your life.’

The Lord Of The Rings star added that even in a time without social media he felt there was ‘so much heat and attention’ on himself during his twenties, which led him to struggle to enjoy it.

He added: ‘I got really good at hiding myself because I was really, painfully, trying to live, without being just looked at the whole time.’

‘I would say to my young self, just appreciate it and enjoy it, and know today’s newspaper is tomorrow’s fish and chip paper, especially with those kind of [celebrity] magazines.’

Orlando became a household name early on in his career after starring as Legolas in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, and as Will Turner in Pirates Of The Caribbean.

Since his rise to fame, the actor has kept his personal life private, he shares six-month-old daughter Daisy with fiancée Katy Perry and 10-year-old son Flynn with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr.

He recently revealed that he desperately wants Daisy’s first word to be ‘daddy’, and will sing songs with the word ‘dad’ in them to prompt her to do so.

Speaking on the Graham Norton Show, he admitted: ‘I’m constantly talking to her, chanting to her, singing – now I sing anything with “Daddy” in it, just because I want her to say “Dad” before she says anything else.’

‘I’m like, “Daddy loves his, Daddy loves his!” She’ll be like, “Mom is going to be much better at this than you. S** off!” Actually, she sort of has said a bit of “Da-dad, da-dad.” Everytime I come up she’s very excited to see me.’

Orlando and Katy, who first started dating in 2016 and got engaged on Valentine’s Day 2019, welcomed their baby girl on August 26 last year.
