Chatting to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, Clodagh said: ‘I remember the last time I went back to Ireland, it was just before lockdown happened, I was going over to see my mom. Hi Mom!’

The chef then became emotional and started to wipe tears from her eyes as Holly said: ‘It’s days like today that you really think about them isn’t it?’

Phillip asked Clodagh if she had called her mother recently and the chef said she had, adding: ‘She’s doing fine’.

Phillip and Holly didn’t waste time throwing themselves into St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on Wednesday as the This Morning set was transformed into a pub.

The presenter gushed it was ‘amazing’ to be back in a bar while taverns across the nation remain closed during lockdown, and kicked off the show by having a go at pouring his own pint of Guinness.

Phillip and Holly were among a slew of stars who were marking St Patrick’s Day in lockdown, with celebrities including Dara Ó Briain and Vogue Williams offering their own well-wishes to their Irish fans.

As they started the show, Phillip and Holly offered fans a glimpse of the show’s set, which had been turned into their very own tavern, the This Morning arms.

Holly gushed: ‘Here on This Morning we’re celebrating the emerald Isle, we’ve got our own pub! It’s nice to sit in our own bar…’

Phillip added: ‘It’s amazing being in a bar again,’ while his co-host said: ‘I wish I had moved my tea so that I could have a Guinness instead, I think I am letting the side down.’

With their own on-set pub Phillip also got the chance to pour his own pint from the tap to toast the feast of St Patrick, but didn’t seem to impress Holly with his barman skills as she joked his drink ‘looked dodgy.’
