Meghan Markle was ‘America’s princess’ but was deemed ‘not good enough’ for the Royal Family, Trisha Goddard has claimed.
Her comments come following a week of turmoil for the monarchy after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told Oprah Winfrey they experienced open racism from family members and staff.
TV presenter Ms Goddard, who lives in the United States, said that ‘the whole Royal Family, the Empire, going back centuries, it’s all based on slavery and racism and subjugation of people’.
She made the remarks in the ITV documentary Harry and Meghan: The Week That Shook The Royals, which aired yesterday at 10.15pm.
‘It’s the establishment, we’re talking about systemic and institutionalised racism, not whether one person said something inappropriate, it’s a much bigger subject than that,’ Ms Goddard said.

ITV’s Royal Editor Chris Ship said that in some respects, the Duke of Sussex could be said to have damaged the institution of monarchy and done harm to Britain’s image overseas.
Ms Goddard said: ‘This is not just racism but snobbishness, the Americans think they had their princess, went overseas and married a prince, it’s that fairy tale thing, and she wasn’t good enough for them.
‘The Queen seems to still be, of all of them, to have come out better than all of them as its that grandmother thing and plus the statement came from her.

‘Granny was the one who was doing all the mending. The rest of the Royal Family are like, why are they all so silent? Why is his dad so quiet?’
On Thursday, Prince William became the first senior Windsor to address directly the string of allegations made by Harry and Meghan.
He insisted after being asked by a Sky News journalist that the royals were ‘very much not a racist family’.
Harry and Meghan refused to say which family member asked about Archie’s skin colour but they later clarified to Ms Winfrey that it was not the Queen or the Duke of Edinburgh.
William admitted he had not even spoken to Harry about the TV show – four days after it aired.
His reaction laid bare his clear hurt over the claims made by his brother and sister-in-law.
The prince’s comments were praised by insiders, who said the 38-year-old did ‘very well given the emotion and enormity of it all’.
Royal insiders claimed that although William and Harry have not spoken in months, the elder brother is prepared to stand ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with the Duke of Sussex at the unveiling of a statue of their late mother.
It comes after a new poll showed that Prince Harry and Meghan’s popularity ratings have fallen to their lowest levels ever after their bombshell interview.
A YouGov survey showed that Prince Harry’s popularity had plunged 15 points since last week’s broadcast.
Meghan’s popularity has also sunk by 13 points in the last 10 days, figures from the poll show.
Meanwhile, in a sign of unwavering show of support, Britons continue to be most fond of the Queen, with four in five people (80 per cent) liking her, the survey says.
Prince William and his wife Kate also remain very popular, according to the poll, with about three quarters of Britons giving them favourable reviews.
Prince Andrew remains by far the most unpopular royal, with an 82 per cent negative view, according to the poll.
