Outlander gets renewed for Season 7 based on the seventh book An Echo In the Bone

As production continues on Season 6 of the hit Starz series Outlander, the cast has revealed it’s been picked up for a seventh season as well.

Starz revealed the news through a video (via Outlander Twitter) where stars such as Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe answered questions from the fans.

As it turned out, every question was about whether or not the show would return for Season 7, which the cast ultimately confirmed.

The last question Heughan read was from Balfe herself, who asked, ‘Am I coming back to work next year, and can I have a bigger trailer?’

Heughan replied, ‘I’m afraid, Caitriona, no you can’t have a bigger trailer, however, you are coming back for Season 7, yes!’  

Richard Rankin added, ‘There will be a Season 7. Another season to potentially torture Roger.’

Starz also confirmed that Season 7 will span 12 episodes, and that it will follow the seventh of eight books in author Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novel series, entitled An Echo in the Bone.’

‘We are so excited Starz has given us the opportunity to continue the epic Outlander journey,” showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said in a statement.

Production started on Season 6 of Outlander began in February, nearly a year after Season 5 debuted in February 2020.

There is no indication as of yet as to when Season 6 or Season 7 may debut on Starz, or when Season 7 will start filming.

Outlander debuted in 2014, following the tale of a World War II combat nurse named Claire Randall (Balfe) who is suddenly transported back in time to 1743.

There she meets and falls in love with Jamie Fraser (Heughan), and they have a child together Brianna (Skelton).

Heughan, Balfe, Skelton and Rankin are all confirmed to return for Season 7, with Roberts executive producing alongside series creator Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Andy Harries, and Jim Kohlberg.
