Victoria Beckham reveals son Romeo, 18, has been training with dad David’s club Inter Miami in a bid to follow in his sporting footsteps

Romeo Beckham has been training with his dad David’s football team in the hope of becoming a professional.

The teen’s change in ventures was revealed by his mum Victoria, who said he ‘ultimately’ hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps by training with the club he co-owns, Inter Miami.

It came after Victoria revealed years earlier that Romeo had decided he wanted to practice playing tennis instead of football, even after signing up for the Arsenal Academy in 2014.

Speaking to Vogue, Victoria revealed Romeo was now dreaming of becoming a professional football player like David, who signed to Manchester United when he was just 17.

She said: ‘Romeo has been training with the team over here every day, because ultimately that’s what he wants to do.’

However the designer insisted she wasn’t going back into ‘football mode’ just yet, adding: ‘No, the only reason why I’m wearing my Reebok cap is because I haven’t had time to do my hair.’

In 2014, Romeo and his two brothers Brooklyn, 22, and Cruz, 15, joined the Arsenal Academy, but have all since left.

David said at the time that Romeo had ‘other passions to pursue,’ and Victoria said in 2019 her sons feared letting their dad down when they decided they didn’t want to become football players.

She told the Financial Times: ‘I remember Romeo sitting in the bath getting really upset saying, ”I don’t want to let Daddy down”.

‘So I told him daddy just wants you to be happy. And now he’s playing tennis. Every day.’

While the Beckhams isolated at their lavish mansion in The Cotswolds, it appeared that Romeo’s £30,000 tennis court was replaced with a five-a-side football pitch.

When asked by a fan in August whether he had plans of becoming a professional footballer, the teen responded: ‘Yeah.’

In February 2020 Romeo also played for Millfield School Under 18s against Clevedon Town AFC.

David and his family have been based in Florida in recent weeks so the former England captain could kick off training with the Inter Miami ahead of the new Major League Soccer season.
