‘You better not show up on Channel Nine!’ Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac takes a swipe at the Today show as he serenades departing host Samantha Armytage
Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac couldn’t resist taking a swipe at rival breakfast show Today during host Samantha Armytage’s last day on Thursday.
The 39-year-old made a sly reference to the multiple line-up changes at Nine’s Today show over the years as he serenaded the departing anchor.
While performing to the melody of Time of Your Life (Good Riddance) by Green Day, Sam joked about Today’s habit of changing hosts every year.

Sam began singing: ‘You know we would love to keep you here but when it’s time, it’s time… and you better not show up on Channel Nine.’
‘You better not, we know they change hosts every year,’ he added, as Samantha and her colleagues burst into laughter.
Channel Nine has played several rounds of musical chairs over the years in a bid to to improve ratings.
Early last year, Karl Stefanovic was reinstated as host alongside Allison Langdon.

Karl had previously presented the breakfast program alongside Georgie Gardner but was axed in December 2018.
He was replaced by Deborah Knight for a new-look panel in January 2019, but viewers didn’t warm to two female anchors and ratings bombed.
So, in January 2020, Karl was brought back alongside Allison.

Their partnership is proving to be a success as the Today show is now starting to catch up to Sunrise in the breakfast TV ratings war.
Nine’s program is especially popular in the east coast cities, which is considered the most important market for advertisers.
Sam’s last day on Sunrise was Thursday. She is expected to be replaced as host by longtime newsreader Natalie Barr.
