Sunrise’s Sam Mac serenades Samantha Armytage and refers to THAT comment about ‘sociopaths’

That’s awkward! Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac serenades departing host Samantha Armytage and refers to THAT comment about ‘sociopaths and narcissists’ in article which ‘angered colleagues and Sunrise bosses’

Samantha Armytage’s final day at Sunrise on Thursday was definitely memorable.

Before officially signing off, Sam Mac serenaded the departing host to the melody of Time of Your Life (Good Riddance) by Green Day.

But things took an awkward turn when the weatherman, 39, referenced Samantha’s recent comments that ‘TV was full of sociopaths and narcissists’ during his song.

During the breakfast show, Sam broke out his guitar and said: ‘It’s an emotional day and obviously I speak to you best in song Sam. So I thought I’d do a little something to say goodbye.’

He started singing: ‘So now the time has come, Samantha is moving on. And despite repeated requests I’m doing another song.’

‘So many memories and you will be sorely missed. But it’s time to say goodbye to the sociopaths and narcissists,’ he continued as Samantha burst into laughter.

‘Everyone say goodbye and wave if you’re one of them. It wasn’t me Sam, was it? You weren’t referring to me?’ he asked.

While the weather presenter made light of her remarks, it’s rumoured the comments Sam made during her interview with Stellar magazine last month, actually ‘angered her colleagues and bosses at Seven’.

During the interview, Samantha said the TV industry is ‘a dangerous environment’.

‘TV isn’t a place that’s necessarily very healthy,’ she told the publication.

‘It’s full of sociopaths and narcissists – it can be a dangerous environment, let me tell you.’

She also divided opinions by sharing her view on how women are treated differently in the workplace if they’re married with children.

The 44-year-old said she’d been assigned more work than her female colleagues in the past simply because she was unmarried and childless.

Many readers took issue with the fact the piece seemed to pit women against each other based on their family situation.

The breakfast host also used the interview to bemoan her ‘creative side’ wasn’t being properly used as she launched her new podcast called Something To Talk About with Samantha Armytage.

The podcast is produced in conjunction with the News Corp-owned Stellar, where Armytage writes a weekly column.

Speculation mounted that she would be gone from the Sunrise chair following the incendiary magazine interview.

On Monday morning Armytage tearfully announced on-air she would be leaving breakfast television after eight years, saying she was going out on her own terms.
